Prompt Variables and Placeholders Explained

Name variables by meaning Use descriptive uppercase placeholders such as [TARGET_AUDIENCE] or [OUTPUT_FORMAT]. Avoid numbered slots whose meaning must be remembered.

Define each input Show a label, example, requirement state, and reasonable limit. Keep confidential data out of public builders and explain where replacement happens.

Handle empty values Choose whether an empty field leaves the placeholder visible, removes the section, or uses a documented default. Silent guesses make a template difficult to debug.

Preserve structure Variable replacement should not alter the surrounding headings and constraints. Test brackets, quotes, multiline input, Unicode, and values that resemble instructions.
